Adding Recommend Links And Posts To Advanced Templates

The Recommended Links and Posts feature was added to Typepad in June 2013. If you created an Advanced Template Set before the feature was released, the templates in your set will need to be updated to include the template tags to display the Recommend Links and Posts below your posts.

If you are not using an Advanced Template Set, no changes need to made to the blog design, and you can utilize this feature on the Compose page. More information on this can be found in the Recommend Links and Posts article.

From the Design tab, you can scroll down to the list of designs in the Advanced Template to check the date your template set was created. If it was prior to 06/19/13, the below steps can be completed to update your templates to include the necessary tags to display the Recommended Links and Posts.

The Main Index, Individual Archives, Category Archives, and DateBased Archives templates in the set will need to be updated.

Main Index Template

For the Main Index template, the new template tags need to be added in three locations. At Design > Templates, click on the Main Index Template open it.

Look for the opening body tag near the beginning of the template and place the below code immediately after the tag:

The format of the body tag will vary depending on the layout you have chosen for your blog. The default in the template set is <body class="layout-two-column-right"> but you may also see <body class="layout-two-column-left">, <body class="layout-three-column">, or <body class="layout-three-column-right">.

After the <div class="entry-content"> tag, add the following:

There are two instances of the above tag in the Main Index Template. One is for the Featured Post displayed on the front page of your blog, and the second instance of the <div class="entry-content"> tag applies to the other posts displayed on the index pages. The above code should be included after both instances of <div class="entry-content"> in the Main Index Template.

Finally, click Save Changes to update your blog.

Category Archives and DateBased Template

The instructions for updating the Category Archives and DateBased Templates are the same, and the new template tags need to be added in two locations in each template. At Design > Templates, click on the template to open it.

Similar to the Main Index Template, look for the opening body tag near the beginning of the Category Archives and DateBased Archives Templates and place the below code immediately after the tag:
